  Doesn't the old "Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained" Book have some really nasty ones, with the earth opening up and people falling down a seemingly bottomless hole...tall buildings crumbling and on fire...people on the rampage in the streets etc....all that wonderful stuff the JWs speak so longingly for?

  it's 'big black cloud over the board' day.

  everyone's having their issues so i thought i'd share a story of another board so maybe the pesemists will see the brighter side and realise this board offers more than some people may realise.. before joining this board i was part of a small discusion board about rainbow brite, the 80's cartoon character that's all about love and colors and happiness.

  i was happy to find others my age that still enjoyed her.

  Interesting name you've got there. Love to hear what it means. And btw...welcome to the board. I've been busy and only popping in and out for short times lately so I missed your posting til now.

  Seeker's got a good point there. I'm optimistic that this will pass. This board has been a fantastic find for me to learn so much...each day I find out something about the WTS that I didn't know and I was raised from birth in a JW family.

  And as a bonus, I've made some fantastic friends here online practically next door and thousands of miles away. Some of us have gone on to meet personally and found we really clicked so we arranged to meet again....and now again next week.

  Anybody I talk to about this board, I tell them what a great bunch of intelligent people are here that can express their feelings on an issue or share their knowledge, time and experiences, and some are just so funny and witty and do something silly to make us all laugh.

  Each day that I come here, I benefit from something, so when things get a little rocky, I'm confident that somehow we will work through it. Hang in there...

  Hello again hawkaw:

  I just want to acknowledge all the time and effort you spend on this subject for our benefit.

  I always held fast to the "no blood" issue even after I left the JWs, because I was still engrained with years of this teaching. I thank you and the others who bring to us here all this background research you all are doing to find all these discrepencies in the WTS policy.

  I need more time than I have at the moment to read through all of this, but just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation to you.

  to be successful in marketing one must know how to reach their target audience.. to this reader, this marketing technique comes through very clear in the september 22, 2001 awake magazine, where on the front cover is a picture of a woman working in the rice fields, with a great look of despair on her face.

  the caption: can we grow enough food?.

  the first three articles in this issue of the awake can certainly strike fear into the reader with bold print subheadings, thought provoking questions and quotations from experts on this problem.

  Hi Stealth:

  I add my "Welcome" to the board.

  I've missed your other posts but I'm glad to read this one...not because I miss all that "stuff" but because it reminds me of how I used to jump on an article like that to use as my "I'm calling because we're concerned about...." pitch. Highlight the doom and gloom and then bring in the "knight in shining armour"....tada....the WT will show you the way to escape this fate.

  Now I shake my head in embarrassment as I recall how many times I used that....and I do a slow burn at the memories of how I really believed what I was saying because I believed the WTS was being directed by God to write those things.

  And I agree, it probably is easier to market that approach more now to the 3rd World countries....Our countries have been hearing that tired line for too long now.

  i noticed this in the wt where the study article was this week.

  i didnt see this posted here (apologies for the spam if it was) but im sure it would interest some here.

  this is from an article about tolerance, one of the articles from the 'liberals,' as maximus would say.. of course, we need to avoid being overly tolerant.

  Thanks Moxy for highlighting this point.

  It just screams of damage-control to me. The WTS can point to these statements and some in another article and say: "See, the accusations against are trumped-up lies. We've been saying all along that we support and help the victims and support the policy of dealing with the abusers. See how we said in this article: 'Is just transferring such a man an example of proper tolerance? Hardly!' and 'we need to avoid being overly tolerant'. See, they are lying when they say we protect the abuser"...and so on and so on...

  But surely the truth of the facts will jump out at ones who cannot find an excuse for the behavior of the WTS as will be brought out in the public soon. Many may stand firm and deny the facts at first but its got to have an undermining effect that will cause the crumbling to start. Even if its a slow crumble, it will have the WTS scrambling.

  Toronto Branch Sizing Down!

  the toronto branch is downsizing by 80 people, some of them paralegals.

  this is, according to my source, definite fact.

  they are being sent home.. i have heard that this is an across the board downsizing to take place at all branches around the world, and i've heard of branches other places which is sizing down as well.. maybe others have heard of a downsizing their own land?

  I wonder when reading this:

  All publishers had to sign the Publisher Card before which is now viewed as a proof of membership by the Religious Community. The number of 192'000 members is officially given unless there are only about 165'000 publishers. Because a corporation of public law has to have a minimum size also inactive members are counted.

  .. which number the WTS uses when printing its numbers for Germany in the world's numbers records for each country in the WT. Does it inflate it and use the number including inactive ones, or does it record the accurate number of active publishers? Interesting....more manipulation by the WTS?
